1. Who we are
Stim-Road Travels (U) Ltd (“Stim”, “we”) hires vehicles with or without a driver in Uganda. Pickup is from Kampala or Entebbe unless we agree another point in writing. We are a transport and car-hire company. Park permits, gorilla permits, lodges, and guided game drives are not included unless a quote says so.
2. The agreement
A hire starts when we confirm dates, vehicle class, rate, and these terms (or a signed hire agreement) in writing — email or WhatsApp counts. The hire agreement issued for your booking prevails if it differs from this page.
3. Who may drive
- Self-drive: you must hold a valid driving licence for the vehicle class. Visitors should carry an international driving permit where Ugandan law or the insurer requires it.
- Minimum age for Stim self-drive is 21 years (Uganda’s driving age is 18; our insurer is stricter). Additional named drivers and licence years are on the hire agreement.
- Only named drivers may drive. Lending the vehicle is a breach.
- Chauffeur hire: Stim supplies the driver. You do not drive unless the agreement says you may.
4. The vehicle
We confirm a class (for example Prado, van, coaster), not always a registration number, until close to pickup. A similar vehicle in the same class may be substituted if the booked unit is off the road. Handover includes a walk-around. Note existing marks on the form before you leave.
5. Insurance and excess
Vehicles go out with the cover described on your hire agreement (typically third-party and, where included, own-damage). An insurance excess applies. Indicative self-drive bands, so you can plan:
- Sedan / compact: USD 250–400
- RAV4 class: USD 300–500
- Land Cruiser Prado: USD 500–1,000
- Land Cruiser (full-size): USD 800–2,000
The amount printed on your hire agreement or quote is the one that binds that booking. You remain responsible for:
- damage outside the policy (for example underbody, tyres, or glass if those are excluded on your agreement);
- loss caused by an unauthorised driver, drink or drugs, or use contrary to the briefing;
- traffic fines, congestion charges, and clamping fees incurred during the hire.
6. Where you may take the vehicle
Use is Uganda unless we give written permission for a border. Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania are possible when named on the quote — see cross-border hire. Park roads, gravel, and rain-season tracks need the class we briefed (usually a 4x4). Taking a sedan or city van onto a park track against the briefing is at your risk. We are not a safari operator: UWA rules and permit conditions still apply to you.
7. Fuel, cleaning, and return
Day rates exclude fuel. Return at the agreed level (usually the same as handover). Message the desk with the drop-off time and place before you arrive. Return the vehicle on time, in a reasonably clean state. Smoking in the cabin is not allowed. Extra cleaning, missing accessories, or fuel shortfall are charged as stated on the agreement. We inspect with you at handover and return.
8. Breakdown and replacement
Contact the operations number on the agreement immediately. We will arrange repair or a replacement where reasonably possible. Stim is not liable for onward travel costs, missed lodges, or unused park fees if a mechanical delay occurs, except where Ugandan law says otherwise.
9. Payment
Rates are quoted in USD unless we agree another currency. Quoted rates exclude VAT unless the quote says inclusive (Uganda VAT is 18% where it applies). How to pay is set out on How to pay. A booking deposit is typically 30% of the hire, invoiced to hold the vehicle. A security bond equal to the insurance excess is taken at pickup (cash or card authorisation) and released after inspection, unless the agreement says otherwise.
10. Cancellation
See the cancellation policy.
11. Liability
To the extent permitted by Ugandan law, Stim is not liable for indirect loss (including unused hotel nights or missed flights) arising from traffic, weather, road closures, or events outside our control. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence where the law does not allow that limit.
12. Law
Ugandan law applies. Disputes are handled in the courts of Uganda unless we both agree another forum in writing.
